West Bromwich Albion are ready to make a move for Liverpool midfielder Lazar Markovic. According to a reliable source in the English media, the Baggies have expressed a desire in the Reds winger and could make an offer for him this month. The West Midlands club are among a number of clubs interested in the Serbian’s signature with reports claiming that the player’s availability has alerted clubs from Russia.
Markovic has failed to feature in a single game for the club this season with his only appearance coming in Premier League 2 so far. The 23-year-old joined Liverpool from Benfica in the summer of 2014 but has struggled to find regular game time at Merseyside. He arrived at the club when Brendan Rodgers was still in charge but was subsequently sent out on loan to Fenerbahce, Sporting CP and Hull City in the last few years with the hope that he will continue to develop and be able to come back and break into the Reds first-team in the coming years. However, he has failed to do so this season which could mean that the Serbian could finally be moved on from the Merseyside club in search of greener pastures.
The Serbian international made a name for himself at Partizan Belgrade where he scored 14 goals and made 16 assists in 65 appearances in all competitions. He has gone on to earn 22 international caps for the Serbian national team, scoring three goals for his nation so far.
West Bromwich Albion are currently in 19th place in the Premier League standings and are in real danger of getting relegated this season. The Baggies boss Alan Pardew could be in need of some quality additions in this transfer window with some reports claiming that a potential move for Markovic might be lined up this month. The addition of the Serbian will undoubtedly bolster Pardew’s attacking options at the club going into the second half of the campaign.
The West Midlands outfit are in a do or die battle where they are required to pick up some favourable results in the coming weeks to try and have a chance of saving themselves from the agony of relegation to the Championship at the end of the season. The Serbian international has shown glimpses of his brilliance in recent years during his spells at Hull City, Sporting CP and Fenerbahce and could prove to be a worthy asset for Pardew ahead of a relegation dogfight in the next few months.
It remains to be seen whether they are successful in their attempts to lure Markovic to the Hawthorns before the end of this month.
