Liverpool are set to admit defeat in pursuit of Bayer 04 Leverkusen winger Julian Brandt after the Bundesliga star decided to sign a new deal with the German club. According to recent reports in the English press, the Reds are set to miss out on the 21-year-old’s services with the German winger ready to pen a new contract with his current club. Brandt, who is also a reported target for the current Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, has been linked with a move abroad as his contract has a clause which would allow him to depart for as little as £11m.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen are desperate to make him sign a new contract and according to a report in the German media, it looks like their wishes would come true as the German international is set to prolong his stay at the club by signing a new long-term deal which will remove the problematic release clause in his contract. With the Reds set to miss out on their Bundesliga target, let’s take a look at three alternatives for Jurgen Klopp to consider this month.
Florian Thauvin
The 24-year-old Ligue 1 winger has been excellent with his performances for Olympique Marseille this season. The French midfielder is highly versatile and can play in a number of different positions which will suit Jurgen Klopp’s style of play at Liverpool. He has found the back of the net 11 times and provided 13 assists in 32 appearances for the Ligue 1 club across all competitions this season.
Leon Bailey
The Bayer 04 Leverkusen winger has been in sensational form in this campaign and has put in some dazzling displays for the Bundesliga club so far. The 20-year-old Jamaican has notched up with 9 goals and made 5 assists in 18 matches for Leverkusen this term across all competitions. Bailey is a teammate of Brandt and has done well at the German club this term. He has all the qualities to become a future star and the Reds can look to utilise his potential by sealing a move for him in the near future.
Iñaki Williams
The 23-year-old Athletic Bilbao midfielder has put in some great performances for his club in this campaign and has shown signs of his brilliance in sparks during this La Liga season. The Spaniard has found the back of the net 7 times and made 5 assists in 30 games for Bilbao in all competitions so far. At 23, he still has his peak years ahead of him which Liverpool could look to capitalise on if they can sign him up this month.
