Leicester City will be a buoyant side when they host Burnley at the King Power Stadium on Sunday after a terrific start to their first ever Champions League campaign. The morale of the club was down after an uninspired beginning with the latest loss being the 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool at Anfield. But no amount of negativity surrounding their Premier League start was on display as the Champions League virgin players were up for the occasion and dismissed any early European butterflies as they went ahead early through a Marc Albrighton goal in the 5th minute. The midfielder thus etched his name onto the history books as being Leicester’s first ever European goal-scorer.
But now the Foxes have to turn their focus back to the Premier League where they will desperately want to improve their current position of being in the 16th place. With a meagre 4 points to show for their efforts in 4 matches, they have a good opportunity to rack up 3 points against Burnley at home. There won’t be any room for complacency, however, after suffering a 2-1 reverse against Hull City on the opening day of the season. While Leicester are expected to have the upper hand, Burnley will be seeking to cause a mini-upset after defeating Liverpool 2-0 earlier in the season.
T40’s PREDICTED LEICESTER CITY LINE-UP VS BURNLEY (4-4-2)
DEFENCE
Kasper Schmeichel will be selected in goal after keeping a clean sheet against Club Brugge. Simpson might be selected at right-back after Hernandez stepped in for him last night. Wes Morgan and Robert Huth are likely to form the central defensive pair and will be looking to keep the likes of Sam Vokes and Andre Gray at bay. Christian Fuchs will be at left-back.
MIDFIELD
Mendy might be in contention to play some part but it is likely that Drinkwater and Amartey will be stationing themselves in midfield once again. After N’Golo Kante’s departure, the club have failed to replace him and it is up to these players to put their hands up and be counted. On the flanks, Ranieri does not need to change much with Riyad Mahrez looking back in rhythm in the Champions League match and it is imperative for Leicester that he is back in form domestically as soon as possible. Marc Albrighton will be on the opposite flank.
ATTACK
Jamie Vardy is a certainty to start and even he looked back in rhythm and his partnership with the new signings will be key for Leicester. Ahmed Musa might get a look it after starting from the bench in midweek.
