Manchester United coasted past Yeovil Town in their 4th round FA Cup clash, as new no. 7 Alexis Sanchez made his debut. On Jose Mourinho’s 100th game in charge and 55th birthday, the Red Devils progressed to the next round courtesy of goals from Rashford, Herrera, Lingard and Lukaku.
Yeovil started as the better of the two teams and Green missed a great chance to make it 1-0 when through on goal. United struggled to create clear-cut chances for the majority of the first half.
Debutatnt Sanchez was by far their best player and it was his pass that led to the opener in the 41st minute as he fed Rashford who took advantage of calamitous defending to give United a first half lead. The tie was virtually sealed when Sanchez played Herrera in behind in the 61st minute and the Spaniard finished clinically.
Mata made it 0-3 only for it to be flagged offside. Late goals from substitutes Lingard and Lukaku added gloss to the scoreline, albeit it was a bit unfair on Yeovil who put in a strong display.
This is how the Manchester United players were rated for their efforts on the pitch against Yeovil Town.
Sergio Romero- 6.5
Most of the shots were straight at him. Handled a freekick very poorly in the first half, however, and was lucky it didn’t cost United.
Luke Shaw- 7/10
Defensively untroubled, and got forward well. Had a shot from very close range blocked. Didn’t bomb forward as often as he does, though.
Victor Lindelof- 6/10
Nervy first half, but steadied in the second. Gave a few cheap fouls away.
Marcus Rojo- 7/10
Not much to do in the way of defending and coped well with whatever little he had to do. Notched an assist with a great cross for United’s fourth.
Matteo Darmian- 5/10
Got beaten multiple times and offered next to nothing in attack. Needs to be moved on to another club, not United quality at all.
Michael Carrick- 7.5/10
Back in the lineup, and back to doing what he does best. Controlled the game and played some excellent passes. Swept up any loose balls in the middle of the park.
Ander Herrera- 7/10
Poor in the first half but drastically improved in the second. Scored at Huish Park yet again with a delightful finish with his left foot into the bottom corner.
Scott McTominay- 6.5/10
Decent game from the youngster. Had some poor touches in the first half and generally played safe. Nearly got his first goal for the club but his shot was brilliantly tipped behind.
Alexis Sanchez- 8/10
Man of the match display on his debut from the Chilean. United’s most creative player in the second half and showed a great workrate. Was fouled very badly throughout and drew two bookings. Got an assist for the second goal after creating the first.
Juan Mata- 7/10
Anonymous in the first half but good in the second as Yeovil tired out. Held the ball up well in the build up to the second goal and played some fine passes.
Marcus Rashford- 6.5/10
Scored a slightly lucky goal but it was down to his perseverance. Didn’t lead the line well on a rare opportunity he got and missed a one on one.
SUBSTITUTES
Romelu Lukaku (Mata 65’) – 6.5/10
Didn’t get too involved in his 25 minute cameo but scored his side’s 4th in injury time.
Jesse Lingard (Sanchez 72’) – 7/10
Excellent for the short while he was on the pitch. Played Rashford in with a sublime through ball and scored yet another beauty.
Angel Gomes (Rashford 88’) – 6/10
Nearly scored after some slick footwork in the box but hit the sidenetting.
