West Bromwich Albion has recently turned down loan deals from a whole host of Championship clubs who are in pursuit of their midfielder Sam Field. According to recent reports, the Baggies have rejected all offers for their teenage starlet from sides in the English Championship who wanted to take him on loan until the end of the current season. It is believed that Barnsley, Derby County, Norwich and Sunderland have all enquired about the player’s availability this month. However, the West Midlands outfit has rejected all of their advances as their manager Alan Pardew wants to use him in the West Brom first-team going into the second half of their campaign.
Field has featured in 6 Premier League matches this term and has put in some strong performances when called upon. The 19-year-old midfielder even scored in his side’s 2-2 draw versus Newcastle United at the Hawthorns back in November last year. The youngster started in the first two matches of Alan Pardew’s reign but has not featured in the league since then.
The Baggies manager tried to deploy him in left midfield but the teenage starlet was more suited to play through the middle and was unable to keep his place in the first-team, eventually losing out to Chris Brunt.
The 19-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at the Hawthorns of late with Gareth Barry and Grzegorz Krychowiak being given a chance to shine in Pardew’s starting eleven while Jake Livermore waits for his opportunity on the sidelines. The Baggies also possess Claudio Yacob in their ranks with Field being called up for a place on the bench ahead of the Argentinian in their away match at Everton. In an interview last month, Pardew informed his young players at West Brom and was quoted to have said, “Unfortunately for you guys the club is in a position where your personal development might have to go to one side for five months.
“Not completely, because we’re going to develop them here, but in terms of going out on loan. The club comes first, and they understood that. We need all hands to the pumps here.”
The Baggies are currently in real danger of suffering the agony of relegation to the Championship at the end of this campaign. They are occupying 19th place in the Premier League table and are two points away from safety. It remains to be seen whether they are successful in fending off any potential suitors and retain Field’s services this month in their quest to save themselves from the drop.
