Hull City’s Sebastian Larsson have rejected talks of a contract extension and this might be a cause for concern at a side held off from the relegation zone by just the goal difference. The Sweden international has been crucial for the Tigers since ever since he arrived over the summer.
He was a key figure under both managers, Leonid Slutsky and Nigel Adkins and has notched up 2 goals and 4 assists this season. But with the club now struggling to make it up the Championship table the veteran will be eager to find a different club next season if they do drop to the lower division.
Adkins will have to scour the transfer market to replace the 32-year-old in the near future. With still over a week left in the January window, he can consider the following players.
Bradley Dack
A £4m move bid has already been sent over by Cardiff City and Leeds United are looking to make a beefed up offer. The asking price might be a bit too hefty, but Dack’s prospects are far too bright to go unnoticed by the Tigers management. He currently plays for Blackburn Rovers and has grabbed an impressive 12 goals and 5 assists this season.
A central midfielder by trade, Dack developed his game playing for Gillingham where he was signed on a scholarship in 2010. He made his debut on 14th August 2012 against Bristol City and on to become the club’s brightest young talents over the past three years. Dack was the highest goalscorer for the club in the 2015/16 season and went on to win the League One player of the year award. Of course, his impressive career achievements did not stop there as he went on to win the Gillingham for the past three seasons consecutively before making the £750,000 move to the Rovers last summer.
Nick Powell
The former Manchester United player has attracted the attention of a lot of sides in both the Premier League and the EFL Championship and the Saints will have to splash a decent amount to pry him away from a promotion chasing Wigan. The £1.5m asking price is quite cheap for such a proven talent.
Tom Cairney
The 26-year-old has been in excellent form this season at Craven Cottage and West Brom are ready to reward him by bringing him to the Premier League. Fulham, who made it clear that they are not ready to part ways with any of their players and instead wants to bring in a few new faces, might be the major stumbling block in the progress of the deal.
Cairney has scored around 22 goals in over 100 appearances for Fulham and would be a good deal for West Brom, given his football dynamics. However, agreeing to a deal with a Fulham side who will in no way want to lose their captain will be difficult.
