Arsenal are eyeing Boca Juniors winger, Cristian Pavon as a likely replacement for Alexis Sanchez at the left wing. The 22-year-old has admitted that his future lies away from the Argentinian league and a move away to the Premier League is more than likely.
Now that the Chilean has already departed for Manchester United on a big money move, Arsene Wenger needs to utilise the remaining week in the January transfer window to find an immediate replacement. Pavon is one of the hottest properties in Argentina right now. He plies his trade for Boca Juniors, a team with a history of producing great players. A supremely confident player on the ball, Pavon can appear from either of the wings or even in the lone striker role. He has been linked with a move to many major clubs in Europe. However, it might be a jet from the Emirates that whisks him away to England.
He has scored 3 times while registering 6 assists in 12 league appearances for the Argentine outfit and is lighting the Primera Division up with his skills from the wide areas. There will be a slight sense of scepticism around the move, however. There have been many a talented South American who has sailed across the Atlantic only to find that the European style of football is not for them. Let’s hope Pavon can overcome that barrier, should he make the move.
Arsene Wenger is well known around the football world to pick his talents very wisely and might just be able to turn Pavon into a superstar just like his predecessor in an Arsenal jersey. However, the real question lies in whether his transfer will be prioritised over the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who has seemingly fallen out of favour with the bosses of Borussia Dortmund.
Wenger is considering a lot of options and now that the gruelling final run of the campaign is upon us maybe he can consider the talents of a South American who does not have any baggage of playing for any rival sides. Pavon’s transfer will also come as a cheaper option.
However, the Frenchman will be sacrificing on Premier League experience and will have to take up the sole responsibility of providing the young winger with the opportunity to flourish in top-flight English football.
Whoever it may be, fans at the Emirates have suffered long enough over the entire Sanchez transfer saga and needs to see the arrival of fresh boots.
