Hull City are ready to make a move for former Premier League forward Carlton Cole. According to recent reports in the English media, the Tigers are willing to bring the English forward into the KCOM Stadium to help them in their quest to save themselves from a potential relegation this season. The 34-year-old is currently a free agent but is on the verge of agreeing to a deal with AFC Wimbledon after training with the League One outfit in the past few weeks. However, the Championship pair of Birmingham City and Hull City are both interested in the ex Chelsea forward.
Cole has proved that he has returned to full fitness after finding the back of the net within the first five minutes during an under-23 game for Wimbledon last week. Both Birmingham and the Tigers are set to battle it out for their Championship lives going into the second half of the campaign and could do with some new additions in the January transfer window to boost their chances of survival.
Although, Hull City does not have the budget to pull off a major coup in this transfer period. Hence, they are looking to recruit a player with proven ability who can come in with a wealth of experience in the Championship and Premier League and get some goals in the opposition box.
Hull City are currently in 21st place in the English Championship table and are occupying the final spot in the relegation zone. They are in dire need of results in the coming weeks to try and avoid the agony of relegation to League One at the end of the current campaign. The Tigers are on a seven-match winless run in the league with a home clash against Leeds United looming on the horizon. Hull boss Nigel Adkins can definitely make use of someone of Carton Cole’s calibre in the upcoming matches as he will bolster their attacking options going forward.
Cole has made 290 appearances in the Premier League, scoring 51 goals and making 27 assists. He also has experienced football in the Championship, featuring in 40 matches in England’s second tier while scoring 14 goals and proving 6 assists. At 34, the forward is in the twilight of his career but on his day, he still has the potential to be a match-winner which might be a great asset for any of his potential suitors.
It remains to be seen whether Hull City can fend off stiff competition from Birmingham City in pursuit of the 34-year-old veteran striker.
