Leeds United currently find themselves stagnating amidst an apparent predicament and a top-six finish seems to be drifting away from their grasp. The Whites are really struggling as they have lost 3 and drawn 1 of their last 4 games in the Championship. As a result, they have fallen behind in the league table, with their hopes of promotion severely jeopardised.
The Yorkshire-based outfit are now poised at the 10th spot in the league table with 43 points to their name after 28 games. They have recently concluded the signing of Adam Forshaw from Middlesbrough and have also made four other signings this January in the shapes of Laurens De Bock, Aapo Halme, Oliver Sarkic and Yosuke Ideguchi, but only Forshaw and De Bock are expected to be used in the first-team setup this season.
With the January transfer window still wide open, Leeds United must tighten the screws of the remaining loopholes. Thomas Christiansen’s attacking arsenal has been an area which has been timorous and thus, it needs to be addressed. Despite scoring three goals in their 3-4 loss at the hands of Millwall yesterday, their offensive woes overall this season has looked questionable more often than not.
They do need a goal-getter who could smash goals regularly and has the experience of English football. As per one of the latest reports, Leeds United have emerged as the second favourites to sign Bournemouth’s striker, Lewis Grabban, this month. Grabban was shipped out on loan to Sunderland in the summer but seeing him dazzle in the Championship prompted the Cherries to terminate his loan deal at Grabban’s request as he is looking for a permanent move.
The 30-year-old had smashed 12 goals in 19 appearances during his loan spell with the Black Cats, a side which is fighting for survival. His experience should come handy for Leeds United, for the striker has plied his trade for the likes of Norwich City, Millwall, Crystal Palace and Rotherham United. He holds the ball well up front and his guile makes him an astute predator inside the box.
Besides, he is a smart passer of the ball and knows exactly where the goal is. Grabban has the calibre of injecting fierce attacking tooth to the offensive aspect of Christiansen’s side. However, it would not be easy for Christiansen’s side to sign him as The Herald reported recently that many other Championship clubs are targeting him. But if the Peacocks manage to make him sign on the dotted line, it might prove to be huge acquisition for them in their pursuit of promotion.
