Leeds United have been in and out of a playoff spot this season due to their inconsistency but were determined to be back to winning ways this afternoon at Elland Road when they hosted Millwall. Leeds, currently, seventh in the league tally badly needed a win in search of a momentum in this critical phase of the campaign and the boss Thomas Christiansen fielded an attacking lineup in search of three points. The game, however, went terribly wrong for the hosts as they went a man down and conceded twice in the first half. The Peacocks needed a reaction made a stunning comeback defying odds and scored thrice in the second half. But their comeback win didn’t materialize after all as Millwall netted twice in closing minutes to clinch a bizarre 4-3 win and all the good works from the hosts went in vain.
Below are the Leeds United players rated from their bizarre 4-3 defeat against Millwall.
Felix Wiedwald: 5
The German custodian made some decent stop from the very beginning of the came. Could have done little to stop either of Millwall’s goals in the first-half. Continued his good work in the second-half too but conceded two late goals and failed to secure a result despite a second-half comeback from his side.
Gaetano Berardi: 6
Continued at right-back role in place of injured Luke Ayling. Despite first-half shambles, he showed resilience and protected his side defensively to clinch a stunning comeback. They, however, could not escape with a win as a late equalizer from substitute Tom Elliott spoiled the party. Jed Wallace’s deflected strike in the stoppage time then clinched all three points for the visitors.
Pontus Jansson: 6.5
Jansson was initially troubled by Lee Gregory, George Seville and Steve Morrison. Struggled to deal with their aerial and crossing game but took charge since Cooper’s sending off and inspired his side to deliver a remarkable defensive display despite being down 2-0 in the first-half. But the Swedish international could not see off a victory as the visitors equalized late in the game to make it 3-3 and scored an injury-time winner to dismiss all hard work done by his side.
Liam Cooper: 4
Struggled since the very beginning of the game and was shown a straight red in the first-half for a poor challenge on Seville.
Laurens De Bock: 5.5
The new signing from Club Brugge mostly restricted his game in defensive duties and shown glimpses of a bright future. Should have been more concentrated towards the end.
Ronaldo Vieira: 6.5
Vieria was fighting hard to keep winning the midfield battle but had to sacrifice his place late in the first-half after Cooper’s marching order and was replaced by defender Matthew Pennington.
Kalvin Phillips: 6.5
Had a quiet first-half but improved since Lasogga’s early second-half goal and kept control of the midfield battle with greater responsibility. The youngster, however, will now miss the next two games after being shown a yellow towards the end.
Ezgjan Alioski: 6
Alioski created menace down the wing with his pace and created ample of opportunities inside the box. But the Macedonian failed to make any significant contribution in such an eventful afternoon.
Pablo Hernandez: 7.5
The veteran was orchestrating the game and linking up with the attackers from a slightly deeper role. Played his part in Lasogga’s second of the afternoon.
Kemar Roofe: 8
Assisted Lasogga and then he himself scored one in the second-half to equalize. Was taken off to be replaced by Stuart Dallas to have more defensive work rate.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga: 8.5
Had a poor first-half with missed opportunities but almost guided his side to a remarkable win with two second-half goals. The second one was particularly a long-range stunner from 25 yards that earned the Peacocks a 3-2 lead which however went in vain following two late goals from the visitors. Was taken off late in the game to be replaced by Conor Shaughnessy.
Substitutes
Matthew Pennington: 6
Did well defensively until Millwall scored two very late goals and reclaim the lead.
Stuart Dallas: 5
The move didn’t work out for the gaffer as Dallas could not influence his side defensively to hold on the lead till the very end of the game.
Conor Shaughnessy: 5.5
Could have clinched a point but was denied from a very close-range which could have made the scoreline 4-4.
