Leeds United are keeping tabs on West Bromwich Albion forward Tyler Roberts. According to recent reports, the Peacocks are eager to bring him into Elland Road amid the Baggies’ efforts to tie him up to a new contract. United has been monitoring his situation at West Brom and are among a whole host of clubs looking to pounce on his signature if he does not pen a new deal with the West Midlands outfit.
Roberts has just six months remaining on his current contract with the Premier League club and is free to join any team of his choice in the summer for a compensation fee. He has been a subject of interest for a number of clubs after having experienced loan stints at three different lower-league teams and a run of matches for Wales’ Under-21 side. The 19-year-old is also free to talk to foreign clubs in this transfer window and arrange a pre-contract deal ahead of a potential move next summer.
It is being reported that he has also gathered the attention of the Scottish giants Rangers as well as a few teams from France. The teenage prospect is currently on loan at Walsall and has been in sensational form in League One this season. He has scored 5 goals and made 5 assists in 19 appearances for Walsall in all competitions so far this season. Roberts is set to return to the Hawthorns after Walsall’s away game against Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
It is believed that West Brom boss Alan Pardew is eager to retain the 19-year-old’s services beyond this season and is hoping that the starlet will pen a new deal over improved terms with the West Midlands club. Leeds United has recently signed midfielder Adam Forshaw from Middlesbrough on a £3m deal and is looking to recruit a striker before the transfer window comes to a close at the end of this month.
The Peacocks are currently in 7th place in the English Championship standings and are well in contention of securing a playoff spot this season. The addition of the West Brom starlet will definitely bolster their attacking options going into the second half of the campaign. The Welsh youngster has immense potential and could be a star for Thomas Christiansen’s Leeds United team for years to come. He made his debut for Wales’ Under-21s in 2017 and also got the opportunity to train with the senior team under Chris Coleman.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead in Roberts’ future and whether the Peacocks are successful in their efforts to lure him to Elland Road before the end of the winter transfer window.
