The one absolutely crucial thing a good manager must know how to do is to make his team perform better than what they are capable of. Mauricio Pochettino is a living example of what to do as a manager to take your team to the next level.
Tottenham Hotspur has always been competitive in the English league. They, however, were never really considered one of the big boys in England. In came Pochettino in 2014 and roughly 200 matches later Spurs are now title contenders in most seasons in the league and have recently beaten Real Madrid to claim the top spot in their Champions League group.
Pochettino has developed the young Tottenham team into pacey, aggressive, determined players with great physical stamina and a love to move the ball fast and into the goal. The team has finished in the top three in the league for two years running now and Pochettino has converted Tottenham from a decent club with good ambitions to serious title contenders.
It is this impressive management style of the Argentine that has seen Pochettino being linked with a move to Real Madrid. With Florentino Perez’s habit of getting whoever he wants, Pochettino could be on his way out. Here are three options for Levy to consider if the Argentine leaves.
Thomas Tuchel
One man who can continue the philosophy of attacking football at Tottenham with great success is former Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel. The 44-year old manager produced a scintillating attacking brand of football at the German club and has been out of a job for some time now. However, Tuchel is not known to be a serial winner with only one DFB Pokal trophy to his name and that might add up against him if he applies for the Tottenham Hotspur job.
Carlo Ancelotti
The Italian mastermind has managed in multiple countries and proven his calibre almost everywhere. He has won the league in Italy, France, England and Germany with different styles of football and has also captured the prized asset of the Champions League with Real Madrid and AC Milan. In his two year reign a Chelsea, he won the title once. His Chelsea team that won the league produced some scintillating attacking football and the Blues scored a record 103 goals in 38 league matches that season on their way to the title. He also completed the domestic double that very season with Chelsea winning the FA Cup.
Known for his ability to maintain a calm, cohesive dressing rooms and at the same time imbibe a certain winning mentality, Ancelotti would be perfect to add that sharp winning edge to the Spurs dressing room, something that can convert Tottenham from a good side to a trophy winning team.
Sean Dyche
Burnley is enjoying a dream start to their 2017-18 season. In a season where the good teams like Everton and West Ham United have failed to turn up, Burnley has gone about their business quietly. They are now seventh on the table just behind the top six sides of England. Their achievement becomes even more impressive when it is noted that they competing against teams who have far better financial resources than them. The majority of the credit will go to Sean Dyche and he may be sought out by Tottenham Hotspur as another potentially great manager in the making.
