After more than two years at Anfield, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has truly taken them to a new level but the manager still has a lot of work to do, to lift the Reds back to their previous best. The German tactician has a few issues in the squad that need to be addressed and one position in the goalkeeper’s role.
With Loris Karius finally getting his chance to start for the Reds on a regular basis in the domestic league, their current no.1 Simon Mignolet has been unsettled and has recently spoken about wanting to quit the club, even before the end of the month.
He wants to start regularly, to try and snatch a place in the Belgium national side in the World Cup later this year, pushing Liverpool into the search of a shot-stopper urgently. The Reds have already been monitoring a few names and here are three players they could end up signing, before the start of the next season:
Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid):
A name constantly doing the rounds recently, and exciting many Liverpool fans is Atletico Madrid star, Jan Oblak. Having already established himself as one of the best in Europe, Oblak has been the most effective shot-stopper in La Liga this season, at least according to the stats and is a top transfer target for Jurgen Klopp at Anfield. He has a release clause of €100m that can be activated in the summer and at just 25, is exactly what Liverpool are crying out for.
Allison (AS Roma):
Another name that is constantly linked with a move to Liverpool is AS Roma star Allison. Also the best shot-stopper statistically in Serie A, the 25-year old has been in excellent form this season for Roma and could even be sold this month. Liverpool are looking to tie him down at least for the summer and is a player they cannot miss out on. At just 25, he has immense potential, and will not cost over €40m and is a player that can definitely solve their problems.
Jack Butland (Stoke City):
The least preferred option for the Reds, at least for the fans, is English international Jack Butland. Also a transfer target for Chelsea, the Stoke City star is a decent shot stopper but his lack of consistency is a bit worrying and Liverpool will want a more established name, to serve them for years to come. He is also 24 and could turn into one of the best in the country but Liverpool cannot take that gamble anymore and should look to sign a more established name if they can.
