Swansea City are in no mood to wander around as they are looking to break records this January, to make sure that they can save their top-flight status for another year. Carlos Carvalhal, who has taken charge of the Welsh outfit, is planning some smart additions to his side, to try and add some impetus and one player he might be close to landing is AC Milan star, Andre Silva.
In what will be a club record deal, Swansea City are now favourites to sign the Portuguese international, who is rated at £35m. The Premier League outfit just edge Wolves from the Championship, as front-runners for his signature but at such an astronomical price, even for the current market, is Silva the right man for the Swans?
A product of the Porto academy, Silva joined AC Milan at the start of the current season, after notching up 17 goals in 41 appearances, in two years in his home country. He moved to Milan in a €38m deal in the summer and was expected to be the first choice for the Italian outfit. However, he is yet to score a goal in Serie A, in spite of getting 12 appearances and it is now understood that Italian giants are ready to cut their losses and let him leave just months later.
Having made a name for himself as a smart, fox-in-the-box striker, Silva is not just clinical in front of goal but is adept at dropping deep to create space for his teammates. He is strong in the air and his hold up play will be effective in the Premier League. He can create chances with his vision and passing technique but is capable of taking his man on to find the back of the net.
He is devastated when afforded time and space on the ball and has scored six goals in six starts in the Europa League this season. He also has 11 goals in 18 appearances for the Portuguese national team and at just 22, is a star in the making.
The pressure on his shoulders to score consistently in Serie A surely weighed him down and a move to a less high-profile club like Swansea City could be a career changer for the youngster.
With Wilfried Bony struggling to find form, Swansea have had to stick with young Tammy Abraham and Oliver McBurnie to lead the line, even in crunch games. Andre Silva is an upgrade on all those options and though is a bit too expensive, is a player who will definitely add goals and has the potential to take the club to safety.
