Known for his movement, vision, passing and combination play, as well as his leadership on the pitch and the uncanny ability to turn games on its head with moments of magic, Jack Wilshere has everything to rule the midfield on any match day.
However, his career has so far been nothing short of frustrating for the fans, the club and the player himself. Several severe injuries have blighted his career and at the age of 26, English fans are still waiting for Wilshere to live up to his potential.
On days when he has played, he has been effective. His tendency to overexert himself and do something extraordinary in every situation on the pitch has however either led him to create a moment of magic or more commonly making a mistake or worst of all, injuring himself.
Wenger seems to have finally found a delicate balance in the player’s game time. He has used Wilshere sparingly this season in order to avoid any injuries to the fragile state of the returning player. Wilshere has impressed in his little time on the pitch and will hope to work his way back into the first team and make league appearances for Arsenal again soon.
A fresh turn of events with Wilshere finally performing well and Wenger now knowing how much to use the player to keep him fit has excited fans about the possibility of getting to see the best of Wilshere. It seems the board was mirroring the thoughts of the fans and has reportedly been preparing a new, improved contract for the Englishman hailed by Xavi as the future of English football. However, the double twist comes in the fact that the new contract will see Wilshere getting a pay cut. The Englishman’s wage will go down from the £110,000-a-week salary he is currently on to £90,000 a week. The second twist, however, works in favour of the Englishman with reports confirming that the deal is heavily incentivized.
Wilshere on his part remains calm and focused on his Arsenal career.
“There’s not a decision to make in January. “I’ve still got six months left on my contract, I’m an Arsenal player and I’m enjoying playing week in, week out.
“I’ve had loads of questions about my future and there’s nothing more I can say until something’s official and we can concentrate on the future.
“But right now, I’m concentrating on each game as it comes.
“I’ve just got back into the team and the club, I suppose, was just waiting for that moment where I’ve proved my fitness.
“I’ve proved that I can play in the Premier League each week for a top club so now that’s happened.
“We’re not waiting for anything really, maybe the right time when there’s a little break in the fixtures – which there’s not.
“But I’m sure in a couple of weeks, something will get done or the boss will say something and we’ll go from there.”
It looks like Wilshere will accept the deal he will be offered, leaving Wenger with one less thing to worry about.
