Sevilla are looking to bring in West Ham United forward Andy Carroll as a fall-back option if they fail to sign Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi. According to a recent report in the Spanish press, the La Liga club is preparing a contingency plan just in case they are unable to secure the services of Batshuayi this month and may opt to land the signature of the Hammers striker.
Meanwhile, the Blues boss Antonio Conte wants to sign Carroll after being increasingly frustrated with his club’s failure to recruit a new forward to help ease the workload of Alvaro Morata in the Chelsea front line. The Spaniard has made a decent start to life at Stamford Bridge but has been far too inconsistent in recent weeks which has left Conte scratching his head and needing to address a backup option for the Spanish international this month. The Italian manager clearly doesn’t fancy Batshuayi who is reportedly a loan target for Sevilla. However, the La Liga outfit are now eyeing a move for Chelsea target Andy Carroll if they fail to sign the Belgian.
It would come as a big blow for the reigning Premier League champions as Conte is desperately looking for a ‘Plan B’ option which the Hammers forward would ideally fulfil. Carroll wants to make a switch to West London in search of regular first-team football and might have his head turned with Chelsea interested in recruiting him. It is believed that West Ham is only willing to sanction a permanent transfer while the Blues are looking to sign him on a loan deal this month.
Sevilla are currently sitting in 6th place in the La Liga table, just three points behind fourth-placed Real Madrid who are occupying the final Champions League spot. The La Liga club has performed well in the Champions League this season and also have a tie versus Manchester United to look forward to in February. They could do with the services of a big physical striker like Carroll. The English forward has scored two goals and provided one assist in 12 Premier League matches for West Ham this season. He has a wealth of experience in the Premier League and could prove to be a big hit in Spanish football.
The Hammers have recently been in sensational form under new manager David Moyes. They are currently out of relegation danger and sit in 11th place in the Premier League table, five points above the drop zone. With Moyes looking for new recruits in this January transfer window, he might be willing to cash in on Carroll this month if the right offer comes in and look to reinvest some of the money generated to strengthen other areas of his squad.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the on-demand West Ham forward.
