Standing at the bottom of the PL points table, Swansea City, led by Carlos Carvalhal, have some serious rebuilding to do this January transfer window. The manager will be desperate to add some quality to his first team and has been linked with some exciting players recently. However, one transfer target they will not be able to land is full-back Ryan Fredericks.
According to sources close to the player, the Fulham man is not looking to quit anytime soon and might even sign a new deal with the London based club before the end of the season. This will be a huge blow for the Swans, who will need to search elsewhere for alternatives. Here are three right backs they can target in the next couple of transfer windows.
Mathieu Debuchy (Arsenal):
The French defender has failed to impress Arsene Wenger, who is yet to start him in a game in the top flight. He has been consigned to a place in the cup competitions and can easily be tempted to shift to the Liberty Stadium, for a place in the first team regularly. He may not want to move on a permanent basis but he does not have a future at Arsenal at the moment and will want to prove himself to the manager, and a loan stint could be very beneficiary.
Jon Flanagan (Liverpool):
The versatile Liverpool right-back is yet to make a single appearance for the side this season and was recently booked for common assault. He is now 25 and is all but sure to quit the club anytime soon. He has decent experience in the English top flight and will be a handy addition for any club in England and Swansea should look to sign him up before the end of the month. He will also be available on the cheap as Liverpool are desperate to sell, making it a good deal for the Swans.
Bacary Sagna:
The former Arsenal and Manchester City full-back was not given a new contract at the end of the previous season but Pep Guardiola, who spent record amounts on a couple of full-backs in the summer. He has been a free agent ever since and though the likes of Crystal Palace and West Ham United were interested in him, remains without a contract. He is an experienced campaigner, can walk into the first team at the Liberty Stadium and will surely lend a helping hand in their fight to safety.
