As per one of the latest reports by The Express, Leeds United are keen to sign Derby County’s striker, Chris Martin, on loan for the rest of the season. Martin is currently out-of-favour in the ranks of the Rams and in 5 starts and 18 cameos off the bench, the 29-year-old has been able to engineer merely 1 goal so far in the Championship and is terribly out of form.
Leeds United have been struggling of late to derive the requisite results. The Whites have collected merely 1 point from the last 3 games in the Championship, with their latest outing ending in a 1-0 loss at the hands of Ipswich Town at the Portman Road Stadium last weekend. Besides, they were knocked out of the FA Cup in the third round by Newport County earlier this month and frankly speaking, they are looking timorous.
With the January transfer window still wide open, the Yorkshire-based outfit must look to beef up their arsenal and one of the key areas of concern of late has been their attacking setup. Summer signings, Jay-Roy Grot and Pierre-Michel Lasogga have hardly hit the desired results that were expected from them and with Caleb Ekuban sidelined with an injury, they do need some additions up front.
Their apparent interest to sign Martin makes some sense. The Peacocks need a regular goal-getter who has the experience of English football and the Scottish international should be able to offer the same to them. Although he is seemingly appearing to be lacking the attacking tooth, it would be too hard on him to disdain his calibre and what he is capable enough.
He is a cunning predator and holds up the ball really well, something one needs to do as an attacker in England. He is known to be an astute passer of the ball and is always a threat to the opposition during the set-pieces. Besides, he avails himself to make the most of the deliveries from his teammates and is still a handy package for any Championship outfit.
Christiansen’s side are currently placed at the 7th spot in the league table with 43 points to their name after 27 games. Perhaps he needs to be backed up adequately to redeem the most out of him and if Christiansen manages to do that after luring him to the Elland Road, he has the potential to turn the tides in favour of Leeds United in their quest for promotion.
