What a massive difference a week can make to a team! When West Ham United defeated West Bromwich Albion by a scoreline of 2-1 for their first match this New Year it left the Baggies still seeking to turn around their mean fortune this season. The Baggies were suffering from a run of terrible form and change of manager did not do much to change the fortune of the club.
Their sour luck has continued in November and December with the side failing to register a single win in almost three months. A massive twenty-one game streak with no wins had firmly placed West Bromwich Albion in the relegation zone.
They had another opportunity last week when they come up against a considerably weaker opposition in the form of Exeter City and West Brom snatched it by going on to win 2-0 on the night. It did a world of good to Pardew and his men as they followed it up with another solid 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion.
Their first win in months means that West Bromwich Albion is still sitting in the 19th place in the league table but are just two points away from safety. They still are going for the drop but given their win last week they have shown that can seriously turn around their form, something they must do if they want to experience the riches of the Premier League next season.
With Alan Pardew in charge, West Bromwich Albion will be hoping to stay up in the Premier League after parting ways with Tony Pulis. Their performances against Tottenham and Manchester City where they lost 2-3 showed that they have enough quality in the squad to cut it out in the Premier League. It seems now, in order to help Pardew have a strong second half, West Brom is ready to be in reinforcements. Fulham captain and star midfielder Tom Cairney has been identified as a possible target by West Brom.
The 26-year-old has been in excellent form this season at Craven Cottage and West Brom are ready to reward him by bringing him to the Premier League. Fulham, who made it clear that they are not ready to part ways with any of their players and instead wants to bring in a few new faces, might be the major stumbling block in the progress of the deal.
Cairney has scored around 22 goals in over 100 appearances for Fulham and would be a good deal for West Brom, given his football dynamics. However, agreeing to a deal with a Fulham side who will in no way want to lose their captain will be difficult.
