Newcastle United are planning on making a loan move for Crystal Palace left-back Pape Souare. According to recent reports, the Magpies are looking to bring in players on loan this month and has identified the 27-year-old Senegalese defender as an ideal addition to their struggling defence. The Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez is currently in a stand-off with owner Mike Ashley over the club’s transfer budget and is now looking for a few Premier League players on loan to make the most out of a tough situation.
It is believed that Crystal Palace are looking to loan out Souare for the remainder of the campaign. The player has been sidelined for the past year after falling victim to a broken jaw and thigh bone in a horrific car accident. Fortunately, the 27-year-old has made a full recovery and is keen on playing regular first-team football again to boost his chances of being selected for his national team in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia which kicks off later this year.
Benitez is also interested in recruiting a goalkeeper, a striker, a left-back and a No. 10 during this ongoing transfer window to help them in their quest to avoid relegation at the end of the season.
The Magpies currently find themselves in 15th place in the Premier League table with a tally of 23 points in 23 league matches. One of their major reasons for their struggles this season has been their defensive issues in the backline which has conceded 31 league goals so far in this campaign. Benitez could look to bring in some defensive cover this month to bolster his options and a potential move for Souare on a temporary basis makes sense for all parties involved.
The 27-year-old defender has played for the likes of LOSC Lille and Stade Reims in Ligue 1 prior to his move to the Premier League. He has a wealth of experience which has helped him earn 22 international caps for the Senegal national team. However, his recent accident has derailed his career and now, the left-back is looking for a platform to reignite his career which the Tyneside club are willing to provide.
Souare could definitely be an asset under Rafael Benitez if the Eagles let him go out on loan this month. Javier Manquillo has been used as a makeshift left-back for the Magpies in most matches but the Spaniard is not a long-term solution in that position. There are also major doubts over the fitness of Paul Dummett and Massadio Haïdara. Hence a potential loan deal for the rest of the season makes sense for both clubs as well as the player.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the veteran Senegalese full-back.
