Burnley has agreed to a loan deal for their 20-year-old forward Josh Ginnelly. According to recent reports, Tranmere Rovers has signed the Clarets youngster on a temporary deal until the end of the season. The English youngster already went out on a season-long loan deal to League Two newcomers Lincoln City back in August. However, he has been recalled as the Premier League has decided to send him to Prenton Park to try and continue with his development in the National League.
Ginnelly has already experienced loan spells at Altrincham, Walsall FC before his move to Lincoln City last year. He has put in some eye-catching displays for the Red Imps this season and has featured in 19 matches this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist in all competitions. Although the 20-year-old has been unable to break into the Burnley senior team, he has gone out on loan again to the National League in order to gain more competitive experience which might help him make a breakthrough in the Premier League in a few years time.
The Coventry born winger is highly versatile and can operate on either wing or as a striker up top. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the 20-year-old.
Burnley are currently in 7th place in the Premier League standings with a tally of 34 points in 23 league matches. They have made a terrific start to the season under manager Sean Dyche but has fallen off the pace in recent weeks. The Clarets are well in contention to earn a strong top 7 finish in the top tier of English football.
However, there is an increasing need for them to build for the future and the development of players such as Ginnelly will be crucial for them to establish themselves as a Premier League club in the coming years.
Ginnelly is joining Tranmere Rovers who are currently in 5th place in the National League, eight points behind league leaders Macclesfield Town. The addition of the Burnley starlet could definitely help them make a late push for the league title going into the second half of the campaign. Micky Mellon’s side has scored 43 goals in 29 league matches and were in dire need of some quality in this transfer window. Only time will tell whether Ginnelly’s loan move to Prenton Park will turn out to be a success and if he will come back as a better player capable of breaking into Sean Dyche’s starting eleven next season.
