Norwich City midfielder Alex Pritchard has sealed a move to Huddersfield Town for an undisclosed fee on what is being reported to be a three-and-a-half-year contract. Huddersfield Town has confirmed on their official website that Pritchard has become a Terrier on Friday.
The 24-year-old joined the Canaries on a £8m deal from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2016 and has scored seven goals in 38 league games for the Carrow Road-based outfit. He has become David Wagner’s second signing of the winter transfer window following defender Terence Kongolo’s switch on loan from AS Monaco earlier this month. In an interview with the official club website, manager David Wagner expressed his delight and stated, “I’m very happy to be able to welcome Alex to Huddersfield.”
“He is exactly the type of player that we like to work with at this Club. Alex is a young, British player who arrives as one of the top performers in the Sky Bet Championship and with a desire to prove himself in the Premier League.
“Now we will work hard with him to give him every possibility of being a success for us in the top division.
“I’d like to thank Dean Hoyle and the Board for being as supportive as ever in this transfer window and making this transfer possible.”
Huddersfield Town has confirmed that Pritchard has penned a long-term deal that will keep him at John Smith’s Stadium until the summer of 2021, with a further year’s option in Town’s favor. The Terriers are currently sitting in 13th place in the Premier League standings, just four points above the relegation zone. David Wagner’s side suffered a disappointing 4-1 home defeat at the hands of West Ham United on Saturday. It was Pritchard’s first appearance for the Terriers when he came off the bench in what proved to be a bitter first outing at West Yorkshire.
The 24-year-old will wear the number 21 jersey with the Terriers and could turn out to be a shrewd winter addition who can help them in their quest to avoid relegation from the Premier League at the end of the season. He is highly versatile and can operate on either flank or in the number 10 position. Pritchard graduated from the Tottenham Hotspur Academy and has previously represented the England Under-21 side. He was also named in the PFA’s Championship Team of the Year in 2015.
Only time will tell whether his move to West Yorkshire turns out to be a success or a bust.
