Brighton & Hove Albion are plotting a move for AS Roma fullback Bruno Peres. According to reports in Italian media, the Brazilian defender is attracting interest from the Premier League duo of Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea with both clubs eager to bring him into English football.
The 27-year-old has fallen down the pecking order and has lost his place in Eusebio Di Francesco’s starting eleven in recent weeks. Since his high-profile move from Torino in the summer of 2016, the Brazilian has made 59 appearances for AS Roma, scoring 2 goals and grabbing 5 assists so far.
According to a reliable source in Italy, the Seagulls have joined in on the hunt to secure his signature with Chelsea and Benfica also reported to be interested in the fullback. A possible transfer out of Italy in the January transfer window looks likely as Chris Hughton’s side are ready to swoop for the defender’s signature.
The Brighton manager is looking to bring in a few fresh faces into his squad so that it gives them a massive boost going into the second half of the campaign. A potential addition of Peres could be an asset for the 15th placed Premier League club as his attacking instincts will bolster their options going forward.
Peres had made 15 appearances for AS Roma this season and has made one assist so far. He is highly versatile and can operate on both flanks as a full-back.
With the likes of Karsdorp and Florenzi sidelined due to injuries, the 27-year-old has been unable to make the most out of the injury crisis at Roma. The Brazilian has failed to produce the same kind of form that he displayed at Torino. Hence, a January transfer in search of greener pastures might be best for all parties.
Brighton are currently struggling in the Premier League and sit in 15th place in the league table. Chris Hughton’s men have only picked up one victory in their last 12 Premier League fixtures. They are in real danger of being relegated at the end of the season and might need all the help they can get from the January transfer window. If the Seagulls can seal the deal for Peres, it will definitely give them a massive boost going into what is set to be a relegation dogfight in the second half of the season. It remains to be seen if they can successfully fend off stiff competition from Chelsea and Benfica in their attempts to win the race for Peres’s signature.
