Norwich City midfielder, James Maddison has drawn major interest from Liverpool after the departure of their Brazilian superstar, Philippe Coutinho. The 21-year-old has been in prolific form for the Canaries this season and has registered an impressive seven goals and eight assists.
Maddison started his professional career with Coventry City before earning himself a move to Carrow Road on 1st February 2016. His contract with the Championship side is set to run till the summer of 2019.
The youngster had to work his way up to the first team even after the move and spent a short loan spell with Scottish Premiership side, Aberdeen. Maddison was so impressive for the Scottish outfit, Norwich could not afford to leave him out of the squad anymore and recalled him in January.
The Coventry-born attacking midfielder is supremely talented with a strong right foot. Standing at 5 feet 9 inches, Maddison’s shiftiness to get into the tight spaces around the box makes him a huge threat to opposition defenders. He is best suited to the number ten role and has been blessed with the vision to find a teammate up front.
His talents are boundless and if he can hit the ground running at a club like Liverpool, he can leave a massive dent in European football. However, such high praises need to be backed up by consistent performances and at a young age of just 21, he is doing exactly that for Norwich.
Jurgen Klopp always promotes young talent into his side and very closely monitors the youngsters of the Liverpool academy. Obviously, the exit of Coutinho has left a meteoric gap in the squad and will be hard to replace immediately.
Even with the financial leverage, his transfer fee has brought in, you might never find another player who can replicate the Brazilian’s style of play for the Reds. RB Leipzig is currently pondering on whether to let Naby Keita leave early in the coming weeks now that a transfer fee has already been agreed.
Liverpool is no longer in the title race with Manchester City already breaking away with a 15 point lead from the pack. Their European campaign is still alive and are favourably stacked against FC Porto in the round of 16. Their 2-1 win against Everton last Sunday has seen them progress to the next round of the FA Cup.
With ambitions of winning some sort of silverware along with a top-four finish in the Premier League, Maddison will have a plethora of opportunities to prove himself.
