Chelsea’s out-of-favour striker, Michy Batshuayi has been linked with La Liga side, Sevilla after barely featuring for the Blues this season. The 24-year-old is growing increasingly frustrated from the Chelsea benches and is eager to find more game time elsewhere.
He has managed only 871 minutes of game time this season mostly appearing as a substitute. But a 9 goal tally clearly shows that his scoring quality is still irrefutable, and the striker should find himself another side in order to ensure his selection for the Belgium national squad ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Batshuayi arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2016 for £33.2m from Ligue 1 side, Marseille. His impressive in front of goal for the French outfit with 33 goals in 78 appearances for the club marked him as one of the hottest European talents. Chelsea fans expected the Belgian to succeed Diego Costa in the number nine role after playing second fiddle to him in the 2016/17 season.
But clearly, Conte is not completely sold over the promise of Batshuayi as seen from the arrival of Alvaro Morata for £58m in the summer. However, the Italian tactician was quoted, “It’s not simple to be young and play in a great team like Chelsea. But I’m very happy with his commitment and I’m very happy with his behaviour during the training sessions. I’m very happy when he’s playing and when I’m calling him to start the game. He has to continue this way.”
The manager also played down talks of a rising interest in West Ham United forward, Andy Carroll. Obviously, this is a huge red light for the future of Batshuayi at Chelsea with rumours arising over the signing of another striker.
Maybe he can find his escape at Sevilla who are currently in the fifth spot of the La Liga table three points behind Real Madrid. The club is currently depending on the talents of Wissam Ben Yedder and Luis Muriel who have not exactly been firing on all cylinders for the White and Reds with just 8 goals between them.
Sevilla faced a devastating 3-5 loss to Real Betis last Sunday and are in danger of being toppled out of the European qualification spots. Batshuayi’s arrival will definitely boost their attacking ranks and can help them in their Champions League fixture against Manchester United. However, Chelsea will demand a heavy price tag for the former Brussels-born striker which might be difficult for Sevilla to meet.
