Argentine winger Nicolas Gaitan is facing great uncertainty in terms of the future of his footballing career. The stylish winger has now been reportedly linked with a move to a number of English Premier League clubs like Everton, Southampton, Watford and West Ham United.
Gaitan, who made the move to Atletico Madrid last summer is reportedly frustrated at his lack of game time at the Spanish capital and is ready to swap teams in favour of more time on the pitch. In his one and a half year at the club, he has been unable to break into the first team let alone cement his spot.
Given the fact that another attacker in the form of Diego Costa has returned to action this January for Atletico Madrid, the situation for Gaitan might become even direr.
He had already been linked with moves to Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur back in January during the transfer window period and it seems that this time around the rumours may come true of the Argentine plying his footballing trade in England.
His agent Jose Iribarren has added fire to the fuel by confirming rumours that the player is unsettled at the club.
“I can tell you English clubs are interested,” Iribarren told Foot Mercato.
“Yes, he’ll undoubtedly leave Atletico in January. He has a lot of concrete offers. Nicolas was an important player when he played in Argentina, at Benfica and with the national team.
“He can’t continue in these conditions. If he can’t play a string of matches, nor win the coach’s trust. A player wants to play. We’re going to see with Atletico which solution we can find.”
As for Watford, the Hornets have played beyond everyone’s expectation this season and Marco Silva’s men will fancy a top half finish in the Premier League come May 2018. Adding Gaitan to a team which already has Richarlison on the other wing will help Watford’s bid to a fighting end to this season’s Premier League.
Should such an opportunity arrive for Gaitan; to play in a team like Watford where he is bound to be an important player in the team, it is difficult to see him turning it down in favour of a stay at a club where he is not a first team player by far. Moreover, a move to a different team might just be what Gaitan needs before the 2018 FIFA World Cup at Russian to restart his stagnated career.
