Brighton & Hove Albion’s Isaiah Brown has been ruled out for the rest of the season. The loanee from Chelsea has been plying his trade with the Seagulls this season but has fallen victim to a knee injury during their FA Cup third-round tie victory versus Crystal Palace. Some sources have verified that the injury he sustained during the clash has turned out to be a cruciate ligament tear in his right knee which will keep out for the remainder of the campaign.
The news will come as a big blow to the Seagulls who are in dire need of a striker in the January transfer window. Brown was a crucial member of David Wagner’s team at Huddersfield who secured promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs last season. He confirmed on Instagram about the extent of his injury and wrote:
“Not the news I wanted to hear, I have torn my ACL & it will need surgery to fix. I will come back fitter & stronger and hopefully be ready for next season. Thank you to everyone at Brighton for the love and support they showed towards me, the fans, the staff, & all the players. I’ve met some amazing people here & these memories will be with me forever.”
With Brown out of action for the Seagulls, let’s take a look at three alternatives for Brighton & Hove Albion to consider this month.
Leonardo Ulloa
The Leicester City striker has fallen down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium this season and has only managed to feature in 7 matches for the Foxes so far. The big Argentine forward is in dire need of first-team football and the Seagulls can take advantage of his situation and provide him with an escape route by securing his signature this month. He has a wealth of experience in the Premier League as well as in the La Liga during his time with UD Almeria. Thus, Ulloa could be a perfect fit under Chris Hughton at Brighton.
Siebe Schrijvers
The FC Genk striker is only 21 and has featured regularly in the Belgian Pro League this season. He has made 23 appearances for his current club in all competitions and has scored 5 goals and made 2 assists so far in this campaign. The Seagulls could take a chance on him as he has immense potential and might thrive if given the opportunity to play in the Premier League.
Jack Marriott
The Peterborough United striker has set the League One on fire with his amazing goal-scoring run this season. He has scored 23 goals and made 4 assists in 36 appearances for the Posh in this campaign. Hence, it makes sense to make a move for the 23-year-old who might continue to score on a prolific basis in the Premier League as well.
