Roma star Lorenzo Pellegrini has been in fine form this season and it seems his hard work is going to bear fruit with top clubs in Europe interested in securing the signature of the young Italian. The 21-year old has been linked with a move to England with clubs like Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea interested in snapping up the attacking midfielder.
The lure to move for the Italian has only hyped up after it was reported that the player has a mere 21 million pound release clause in his contract. Lorenzo has been playing some excellent football this season and has made over 20 appearances for the Roman outfit.
As for the Blues, after Chelsea’s failure in the summer transfer window, the club is lacking a senior attacking player. The club who recently signed Ross Barkley from Everton would hope to appease Antonio Conte further by bringing in Lorenzo Pellegrini. Conte’s switch to a 3-5-2 formation this season has left Chelsea short of players in their attacking positions.
Chelsea currently has Pedro, Hazard, Willian and young Charly Musonda as the wingers in the senior team. While Hazard is a star and untouchable in the first team, the same cannot be said for the rest of the three options. Musonda is very clearly a backup option opted for by Conte due to lack of summer signings and has had very little time on the pitch leaving his Chelsea future in doubt.
The case for Pedro and Willian is that both players are highly inconsistent and have a habit of disappearing from matches. While Pedro still fights and puts in an effort to make something happen, Willian simply complicates matters for himself every time he gets the ball .The Brazilian does not release the ball soon enough and cannot be counted as a first team starter by any margin. Although Willian has improved his game after a below standard start to his season, the Brazilian is still far off from playing twice a week at the top level and Pedro despite his efforts is not the man who can add the quality Chelsea need at the top.
This might prompt Pellegrini to choose Chelsea over the Manchester clubs and move to the west London club where he is likely to get a lot more game time than at the Manchester clubs which are already brimming with players of top quality in attack. Add to this the fact that Pellegrini will find it easier to adopt in a new country under his compatriot Antonio Conte’s regime, will also make Southwest London a better destination than Manchester.
