West Bromwich Albion will want to use the winter transfer market to turn around their mean fortune this season. The Baggies are suffering from a run of terrible form and change of manager has not done much to change the fortune of the club. Their sour luck has continued in December as well with the side failing to register a single win this month. A massive twenty game streak with no wins has firmly placed West Bromwich Albion in the relegation zone.
The manager has a fresh task at hand of re-assessing his squad in this window and keeping hold of important players like Jonny Evans.
Upon his arrival at the Hawthorns, Pardew had said, “I think the assurance I need is probably from Jonny more than anybody and I haven’t met him yet,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to seeing him. I think he’s a fabulous player and very important for the club so I will have a good old discussion with him.” However, with the Evans situation failing to resolve itself, Pardew had to readjust his stance on the player and said that he was ready for life at West Brom without Evans should they get a suitable offer.
The Baggies captain is on a contract until 2019 after joining from Manchester United for £6 million rising to £8 million in 2015. Evans has been subjected to interest from Arsenal and it now remains to be seen if the Gunners do make an offer for him.
With Evans turning 30 next month, the player is no longer someone with a lengthy spell of top football ahead of him and Pardew will find it tough to scoop up decent money for him to get in quality replacements.
On the other side of things, Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy has become a target for West Bromwich Albion. The French defender has just made six appearances for the club this season and is clearly frustrated with the lack of football at the club. He has made it clear that come January he wants a new challenge.
Debuchy has only got six months left on his deal and will be available at a discounted price. With both Arsenal and West Bromwich Albion chasing each other’s defenders, a swap deal involving Debuchy and Evans would not be the worst idea for either club. Debuchy is not a vital member in the Gunners squad and getting a ready-made centre-back replacement will save Wenger the time and money of looking for a new player.
As for West Brom, they are anyway chasing Debuchy and with Evans unwilling to continue at his current club, they might as well use his sale to bring in a player who can directly walk into the starting eleven for them.
