Everton are being linked with a move for Benfica midfielder Rafa Silva. The attacking midfielder has been unimpressive so far and it appears that Benfica are reportedly ready to let go of the Portuguese midfielder. A number of English clubs are interested in the player’s signature including Everton and Leicester City.
It is being reported that the English clubs are interested in taking the players on loan in the January transfer window with an option to make the permanent in summer should the player played well. Benfica it is reported is holding out for a fee close to 30 million Euros but it unlikely any club is going to pay so much for a player who has failed to prove himself so far.
As for Everton, Goodison Park has changed from a depressing arena of uncertainty to a place of tentative hope. A month back, Everton were the bogey side teams were craving to face. In the space of a few weeks, the scenario at Merseyside looks different.
After an active summer where the club spent a fortune to bring in world famous talents, the club was expected to have a crack at the top six. Things turned horrific as Everton were beaten by sides both above and below their quality. As their form slumped down through a never-ending spiral, it saw the hammer fall on their ex-boss Ronald Koeman. Koeman’s sacking did little to change the club’s fortunes as they became the league’s bashing boys.
However, as the fans and pundits stood waiting for Everton to disappear into the lower leagues, the board appointed Sam Allardyce as the new manager. Big Sam has a history of turning around fortunes for a club in crisis.
He had a good start to his Toffees career by beating Huddersfield Town 2-0 and has only suffered one defeat in his eight matches in charge. He has lifted the blue team of Merseyside from a relegation threat to a respectable mid-table position.
Everton have now become a resilient team with a good defensive organization. In attack, they have a talented bunch of players and Silva would be another decent addition to their squad.
The attacking midfielder who can play on the wings and as a second striker as well earned his name during his time at Braga. He played 126 games for the club scoring 25 goals and setting up another 17. He has failed to replicate his form at Benfica and the young player would be hoping a move to England to a club of Everton’s stature might help rekindle his career.
