Troy Deeney is nothing less than a legend at Watford. The Englishman has been serving the Hornets for the seventh successive season now and has done well so far this season under new manager Walter Mazzarri. The 28-year-old was excellent against West Ham United on Saturday and led his side to a remarkable comeback. The Hornets were 2-0 down in the 33rd minute but came up with a stunning 4-2 win.
Deeney’s performances for Watford after the Hornets’ Premier League promotion have not gone unnoticed as The Guardian claims that Ronald Koeman is interested in bringing the Englishman to Goodison Park in the coming January transfer window. Despite owner Farhad Moshiri’s financial backing, Koeman did not set on a major overhaul at Goodison Park after taking charge of the Toffees this summer but the Merseyside club are still unbeaten after three games and will be looking to maintain their strong start of the season with an away win at Sunderland last night.

Over-reliance on Lukaku can come to an end
Lukaku is a gifted striker and Koeman did a brilliant job to keep hold onto the Belgian despite all the speculations of him being on a move away. It is as clear as daylight that Everton are too much dependent on the 23-year-old for goals which needs to change. The likes of Oumar Niasse, Arouna Kone, Leandro Rodríguez are far from good enough and Enner Valencia on loan from West Ham is a short term solution. Deeney is a proven goalscorer in English football and can put an end to Everton’s too much dependency on Lukaku.
Not just a goalscorer but also a provider
Deeney is not what you call a traditional number nine. The 28-year-old is more of a supporting striker who can create chances for the team and works his socks off for the team. Deeney found the net 15 times in all competitions last season and also provided 10 assists. The attacker, despite being just 6′, is a menace in the air which is evident from his 5.5 aerials won per game. The Englishman needs to work on his passing which stands at a 57.3% success rate this season.
Offers Koeman a tactical flexibility
Ronald Koeman is a tactically sound manager and likes to revert his tactics when needed. The Dutchman often used a two-man attack at Southampton last season but at Everton, switching tactics is difficult for him at the moment as Lukaku is the only quality striker he has at his disposal. Deeney, who plays in a two-man attack for Watford, will offer Koeman that tactical flexibility.
