Celtic FC has completed the signing of St Mirren winger Lewis Morgan and has loaned him back to St. Mirren where he is expected to continue with his development for the remainder of the season. The fee is being reported to be in the region of £300,000 with the 21-year-old signing a four-and-a-half-year deal with the reigning Scottish champions. The Scotland Under-21 international has found the back of the net 13 times this season, which helped St Mirren climb to the top of the Scottish Championship. The youngster just had six months remaining on his St Mirren contract which was set to expire at the end of the season. In an interview with BBC Scotland, the 21-year-old was quoted to have said:
“I want to test myself at a higher level and what’s most important is that I will be at St Mirren until the end of the year.
“I’m looking forward to hopefully pushing towards the title and I know we’re certainly capable of it.”
Morgan remains confident about his chances of breaking into Brendan Rodgers’ starting eleven next season and also added,
“I got written off here by St Mirren fans when I was coming through – that’s part and parcel of football.
“People want big names and I think any player in Scotland maybe doesn’t get the credit they deserve, the level of football is better than most people give credit for.
“It’s a challenge and I’ll be looking to go there and make an impact – I’m certainly not going there to sit on the bench anyway.”
Celtic are currently leading the Scottish Premiership by 8 points and are in the driver’s seat to secure another top-flight title. Brendan Rodgers is not going to rest on his laurels and is still looking to build a strong squad capable of challenging in Europe next season. The addition of Lewis Morgan will add goals to his side and with the new signing just being 21, he still has massive potential which Celtic will look to benefit from for years to come. The 21-year-old has featured in 26 games for St. Mirren this season and has scored 13 goals and made 8 assists so far.
There is no doubt about his immense potential and he could turn out to be a shrewd addition to the Glaswegian club. The Scottish prospect will now look to continue his development at St. Mirren and hope to help them secure promotion to the top tier of Scottish football.
Only time will tell whether he will turn out to be a success at Celtic Park in the coming years.
