West Ham United are interested in signing the South Korean midfielder, Ki Sung-Yueng from Swansea City in the January transfer window. David Moyes admires the talents of the 28-year-old and wants to add him to bolster the Hammers midfield ahead of a gruelling relegation battle.
Moyes has expressed concerns over the imbalance of the United squad and is currently scouting for proven talents in the midfield position. Already linked to Sevilla outcast, Steven N’Zonzi the former Manchester United manager will have to utilise the limited resources he has been provided to dig themselves out of the bottom three.
Ki Sung-Yueng is a notable talent with over 5 years of Premier League experience. He arrived at the Liberty Stadium after breaking into his stride for the Scottish side, Celtic with 11 goals and 15 assists in 87 appearances. His price tag of £7m made him the most expensive signing for Swansea at the time and quite deservedly so.
He has 141 games under his belt for the Welsh side and is key to their survival in the league this season. Ki Sung-Yueng’s game is well rounded both offensively and defensively. He is technically adept to control the midfield in high-pressure situations and win back possession whenever required.
West Ham have suffered one of their worst starts to the Premier League campaign this season and are still well within the danger zone. Their post-Christmas draw to Bournemouth after a 2-3 loss to Newcastle United have seen them drop to the 18th spot of the points table.
Although they have improved defensively the club is currently overly stacked with strikers who are just collecting cheques with no end results.
Moyes is ready to offload the contract of Diafra Sakho on an exchange deal for the services of Sung-Yueng. The Senegalese forward has just scored 2 goals in 14 appearances for the club and is a luxury they can do without.
This trade-off is also ideal for a side who are struggling to find the back of the net this season. The Swans have scored just 13 times on 21 occasions this season and needs the saving grace of a hungry forward who can chip in goals on a regular basis.
Newly appointed manager, Carlos Carvalhal is scavenging the transfer market for cheap options given the limited financial backing he might receive from the club owners. With both parties happy, can this trade finally help the sides escape relegation by the end of the season?
