Manchester City have reportedly joined in the race of signing La Liga fullback, Aaron Martin Caricol in the upcoming transfer window. Martin currently plays for RCD Espanyol and has drawn the eyes of multiple clubs from Europe.
The 20-year-old’s release clause is rumoured to be around £26m but can rise significantly after this season. The hefty price tag mostly can be attributed to the Spaniard’s impressive display for Espanyol this season.
Martin joined the youth setup of Espanyol at a very young age and has worked his way up to the senior squad over the years. He made his La Liga debut on 2nd October 2016 and later extended his contract to the summer of 2022.
Displaying great maturity and composure in the left-back position Martin has cemented his spot in the starting XI of the Budgerigars. He has so far registered 48 appearances for the side but is yet to start his goal and assist tally.
Martin’s discipline is well reflected in his abilities to read opposition attacks and timely intercept passes. His commitment has really driven his development so far and is well poised to find him a place in the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola has so far delivered on his promise for the Citizens with a healthy lead at the top of the league table. Remaining unbeaten in the Premier League so far into the season is no easy feat and City are motivated to hold onto that record.
Guardiola is currently scouting for more talents to add to the City squad in order to put them out of touching distance. Summer signing, Benjamin Mendy got himself injured right after arriving at the Etihad and is a long way from being a hundred percent.
The former Barcelona manager has fielded Fabian Delph as a makeshift left-back in recent weeks and has had to pay a small price for that adjustment. Although Delph has been decent in his new role for the club, Guardiola needs a traditional fullback going ahead into the season.
Martin’s entire career has been developed in the Spanish League with no European experience. He has drawn high praises from lots of media outlets and Espanyol fans but is yet to prove himself in the big stages.
Pep’s gameplay entails high possession and formulating attacks from the back. He demands both offensive and defensive excellence from every player and will expect the same from Martin. The real question lies in whether the Spaniard is ready to make a shift to an unfamiliar world of fast-paced English football?
