After a 4 match winning run early December, Leicester City have now managed to take just a point from their last three league outings, and are in desperate need of some points, to consolidate their place in the top half of the league table. However, they face a tough task this weekend as they travel to Anfield, to take on a Liverpool side that has not lost a game at home.
The Reds have conceded just three goals all season at home and will hope to put Leicester City to be with ease but the Foxes have been playing some impressive football and are sure to challenge the hosts. Here is the predicted lineup Claude Puel might field for this tie:
Team News:
The Foxes will be without the services of Robert Huth, Matty James and Danny Simpson both of who are absent for at least another week. Daniel Amartey, however, is back available for selection, after serving a one-match ban in the previous game. The manager has shifted to a 4-2-3-1 in the last couple of games, to decent effect, and might stick to it in this game as well.
Expected lineup (4-2-3-1):
Defence:
Claude Puel has some serious talent on goal in Kasper Schmeichel, who has previously been impressive in this fixture. He will surely be busy, facing an in-form Liverpool attack. He should be assisted by a CB partnership of Wes Morgan and Harry Maguire, who had decent outings against Watford in the previous round. They will have their work cut out against the likes of Firmino, Salah and Mane this weekend.
Danny Simpson’s injury will see Daniel Amartey, who is back from a suspension, replace Dragovic at right back. Young Ben Chilwell, who has cemented a place at left-back under the new manager is also expected to keep his place in the side.
Midfield:
Wilfried Ndidi has been one of the most consistent players for the Foxes this season and will have his work cut out, keeping a close eye on the likes of Coutinho and Wijnaldum. Vicente Iborra, who had a decent outing against Manchester United, should partner Ndidi in the midfield.
Attack:
Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez will be the danger man for the Reds on the right flank and will have to be closely marked by the likes of Robertson. Marc Albrighton has been productive, playing on the left wing and will test young Joe Gomez this weekend.
Demarai Gray has been exceptional in recent games for the Foxes and will play in the hole just in front of the Liverpool backline while Jamie Vardy, who has a habit of scoring against Liverpool, will lead the line.
Here is how they might line up:
