Reports have emerged that Leeds United are interested in League One striker, Jack Marriott who has netted the ball 21 times in 33 appearances for Peterborough United.
Rumours started circulating after scouts from Elland Road travelled to watch Marriott hit a brace against Bradford City on Boxing Day. The scouts also monitored attacking midfielder, Marcus Maddison.
The 23-year-old has been in sensational form this season and is clearly drawing attention from a number of sides.
Marriott started his career at Ipswich Town before working his way around the lower divisions of English with multiple loan spells over the years. He played for League Two side, Lutton United before transferring to Peterborough in the summer of 2017.
The Beverley-born striker played 2 seasons for the Hatters and found the back of the net 28 times in 98 games.
Clearly, his development in the lower leagues have bore fruit judging by his performance this season. His impressive display in front of goal has pushed Peterborough United to the 6th spot of the points table and well positioned to fight their way through to promotion next season.
However, the club’s director of football Barry Fry has officially stated that they have no interest in selling their best players without a significant financial commitment. Their demands lie in the £10m region which might be a red light for the Peacocks.
Leeds United are currently on a splendid run of form with a 1-2 win over Burton Albion on Tuesday. Their 4 game win streak has seen them climb closer to the automatic promotion spot just 5 points behind Bristol City.
However, with Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Caleb Ekuban picking up long-term injuries Thomas Christiansen has had to shift around a few pieces to replace them in the striker roles.
Kemar Roofe is the primary choice to replace them in the lone striker role and has so far been excellent this season with 10 goals and 2 assists.
However, he is more naturally suited to the role of a winger or an attacking midfielder.
The addition of Marriott will be a huge boost for the Whites in the second half of the season. The attacking lineup along with the likes of Samuel Saiz, Roofe and Ezgan Alioski will be perfectly bolstered to chase promotion to Premier League.
However, with the asking price Marriott brings with him it will be interesting to see if Leeds will shell out 7 figures to bring a striker who has never played in the Championship.
