Tottenham Hotspur is ready to destroy their wage ceiling by offering their star striker Harry Kane with a massive new deal which is likely to make him the highest paid player in Spurs history. The North London club remains adamant about keeping hold of their record-breaking striker who has been in majestic form this year which has seen him garner increasing interest from some of Europe’s elite clubs which includes Real Madrid who are being reported to be lining up a move for his signature.
The 24-year-old has slowly become one of the hottest prospects in world football but his relatively low salary of £110,000-per-week does not reflect his talent and reputation which could make him leave the club in the near future. However, Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side are ready to offer him a new deal at the end of the current campaign which would see him get a fourth pay rise since 2014 in a bid to keep the player in North London.
Kane is currently the club’s topmost earner and his bonuses are reported to be particularly lucrative. With his recent prolific record in front of goal this year and Tottenham’s emergence as a force to be reckoned with in English and European football, the striker could be set for a significant pay rise with further payments to be made in the near future.
Historically, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has a habit of rewarding players who consistently perform well for the club with regular pay rises as long as they can keep up the same level of form throughout the season. It was evidenced when Gareth Bale’s contract was improved each year before he finally switched clubs and went to Real Madrid for a then world record transfer fee of £85.3m. However, it is believed that Kane is emotionally attached to Spurs much more than Bale ever was and that has given fresh hope to the club of retaining his services in the coming years.
The English striker has bagged eight hattricks in this calendar year and has kept the official balls from each of those eight matches with him. He now plans to commemorate his record-breaking year by displaying all eight balls in a single photograph. In a recent interview, he said:
‘At the minute, they’re all stored away in bags. I still haven’t got anywhere to display them. I’ll have to talk to my missus and get a room for them somewhere. I’ll have to get them out before the end of the year and have a picture with them. That will be a good one.’
It remains to be seen whether Pochettino is able to retain his services at Tottenham in the coming years with increasing interest from top European clubs looming on the horizon.
