Championship outfit, Middlesbrough are one of the sides that would look to get promoted to the Premier League. They are currently placed at the 7th spot in the league table with 38 points to their name from 24 games and certainly have the chance to get the uplift.
Tony Pulis has been appointed as the new manager of the club after Garry Monk was sacked a few days ago. With the January transfer window coming up, here are three players Pulis should target in order to ensure he has the requisite ingredients to work in the coming months.
Calum Chambers
Arsenal’s 22-year-old defender, Calum Chambers, is someone Pulis should definitely target in January. Chambers has received very limited amount of opportunity under the tactical nous of Arsene Wenger so far this season, having played merely four senior games, two each in Europa League and League Cup.
The English international should be plying his trade on a regular basis to keep this process of development in the requisite shape and a move downward, on loan, to the Championship should help him. He is a decent defender and considering that he was with the Smoggies on loan last season, he could very well fit alongside Ben Gibson.
Ben Woodburn
Liverpool blossoming youngster, Ben Woodburn, is a subject of interest of many sides of the English second division, including Sunderland, Leeds United and Norwich City. Jurgen Klopp has a plethora of stars in his attacking setup and he certainly wouldn’t mind shipping him out on loan to gain experience of competitive football.
The 18-year-old should interest the former West Bromwich Albion manager, as Woodburn is blessed with raw pace, versatility and a keen inclination to find the back of the net. His chances with the senior side of Liverpool looks slim this season and a move to the Riverside Stadium might prove beneficial for him as well.
Jack Colback
Jack Colback has been enduring nothing short of a nightmare at Newcastle United this season, having given not even a single minute of first-team football by Rafael Benitez and has been told that he is no longer a part of his plans. The Magpies are apparently keen to get rid of him and this might tempt the Riversiders to make a move for him.
The 28-year-old has truckloads of experience under his belt and having helped the Toon in earning a promotion to the Premier League last term, he could be a healthy addition to the midfield which Pulis inherited. Although his wages might be a concern, injecting him into the arsenal of Middlesbrough has the potential to be a success for the club.
