Celtic forward Moussa Dembele bagged 32 goals in his first season in Scotland which helped Celtic swoop the domestic treble. Despite struggling with injuries this term he still has eight goals in twenty games for the Hoops. He has scored a massive 40 goals in just over 65 games for the club already and has become their first team hitman above Griffiths. The 21-year-old Frenchman is tipped to become one of the deadliest finishers in Europe and has been linked with a great number of clubs, including many in the Premier League.
The Frenchman was signed from Fulham on a free transfer last summer. One of Brendan Rogers first signings, he has gone on to become a hit at the club. Celtic has only had to pay a compensation package to Fulham for swooping up their youth academy product on a free transfer.
Many English clubs are now interested in him with Brighton and Hove Albion, having reportedly made a move for him. The Seagulls are decently placed in and around the midtable but scoring regular goals remain a problem for them. They have just registered 15 goals in their 20 league games and are desperate for a new striker.
However, Dembele it seems has turned down a move to Brighton in favour of a stay at Celtic
When asked about Dembele after the match, Rodgers said: “I haven’t been informed about anything from the club. It is all part of the modern game.
“There will be interest, of course, but there is nothing in it.
“We don’t want to lose any players. However, if there is something that comes in, it goes back to that issue, morally.
“If there is something where a player can earn five times as much as what he is on now, then it is very difficult to stop him, especially if you get a fee for a player.
“But there is a lot for that to happen, there is a lot that needs to be right.
“We don’t need to sell anyone. But what is always important at Celtic, especially when you are doing so well, you know there is always going to be interesting and you have to prepare forward for the ‘What if?’.
“And if we do lose any of our players for what I have just said then we hope to have some to bring in
to keep the continuation.”
Rogers, it seems, remains sceptical and maybe the manager knows that should another club bigger than Brighton come calling, Dembele might just change his stance in favour of a move away from Parkhead.
