Premier League giants Arsenal and Liverpool are engaged in a transfer duel for the services of 20-year-old Dutch wonderkid Alessio Da Cruz. The Novara youngster is touted as one of the most exciting up and coming talents in Dutch football.
Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp is well aware of his talents and is reportedly keen on making a move in the upcoming transfer window. That being said, however, the Reds trail Arsenal in the race for the Dutch attacker.
According to reports, the Gunners are already in contact with the player, who is targeting a switch to the Emirates this summer. Although Liverpool does have a chance of getting back into the contention, should the Reds really go after the Novara youngster?
Stemming from the world famous youth academy of Ajax, Alessio Da Cruz played for Eredivisie outfit FC Twente for quite sometime before moving to Italy on a free transfer. During his time with the Tukkers, the left winger stormed through the youth ranks before being promoted to the first team, last year. However, due to lack of opportunities, the 20-year-old was loaned out to Dutch second-tier club FC Dordrecht, where he scored five goals in 29 matches all competition.
Da Cruz finally left the Dutch outfit to find pastures new this summer, landing on the Italian shores of Novara. The 20-year-old has been a star for the Italian second tier club this season. He has already netted five goals and provided two assists in 18 games, more than any other Novara attacker this campaign. His invaluable five goals have helped his club stay clear of the drop zone, even though they only lead bottom placed Ascoli by just seven points.
He could be an interesting addition to any Premier League club. However, that only applies to mid-table or smaller in the English top flight. Considering the fact that the Dutchman has very little experience of playing in the top flight(he has appeared in only three Eredivisie matches in his career), it is no less than a gamble for Liverpool to secure his signature next season.
While there are no doubts regarding his unbelievable talents, his lack of experience in the top flight will definitely be a key factor, especially in the Premier League. Therefore, the Reds should instead draw their attention to more valuable targets who can significantly improve the team right away.
