Tottenham Hotspur, the Premier League runners-up last season, have struggled to find consistency this season and now fighting for a top-four finish alongside Arsenal and Liverpool. Although they had a defeat against ruthless Manchester City last weekend, Spurs gathered some momentum prior to the clash and the boss Mauricio Pochettino was determined to continue that this evening to get back to the winning ways when they travelled to Turf Moor to face an impressive Burnley side. The game, however, proved to be a stroll in the park for the visitors who grabbed a routine win via a Harry Kane hat-trick against Sean Dyche’s men and get closer to the fourth spot currently occupied by Liverpool who are only a point ahead following a dramatic 3-3 draw against Arsenal on Friday night.
Below are the Tottenham Hotspur players rated from their 3-0 win against the Clarets.
Hugo Lloris: 7
Was not troubled much throughout the afternoon and didn’t have to make any major stop all evening. An easy outing and clean-sheet for the French custodian.
Serge Aurier: 7
Aurier was mostly busy in charging forward from his right-back slot and taking part in Spurs attack that was well-organized throughout the game.
Davinson Sanchez: 8
The youngster returned to the heart of Spurs defence after serving a ban and delivered another steady display with great confidence and composure.
Jan Vertonghen: 7.5
The veteran Belgian looked as consistent as ever and led his backline against the set-piece and long ball movements of the Clarets which never caused enough trouble in Spurs back-line.
Ben Davies: 7
His final deliveries lacked accuracy at times but the Welshman made continuous forward runs and combined well with Heung-Min Son up front. Also didn’t allow in-form Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson to create enough attacking threats from the left-hand flank.
Moussa Sissoko: 8
The Frenchman was close to departing in summer but regained his place in Pochettino’s squad and delivered a majestic display in the middle of the park. Although he was denied twice by Nick Pope in the first-half, Sissoko set it up for Harry Kane’s second through a depleted Burnley backline.
Eric Dier: 7.5
Dier was restored in his usual midfield slot and controlled the game from the midfield with his movements, tackles and possessional game. Was taken off and replaced by Erik Lamela in closing minutes.
Christian Eriksen: 6
Although his side won convincingly, the Danish sensation didn’t do anything spectacular in front of goal despite making some positive runs and creating a few chances in the attacking third.
Dele Alli: 8.5
Was jeered throughout the game by the home fans for earning a ‘soft’ spot-kick early in the game. Also played a smart one-two with Kane and set it up for the hitman to clinch another hat-trick this term late in the second half. Was replaced in closing seconds by Fernando Llorente.
Heung-Min Son: 7.5
Son looked menacing down the left-hand flank and kept the Clarets backline on their toes with his pace, tricky runs, and cut insides. Was replaced by Mousa Dembele late in the game.
Harry Kane: 10
The English goal-machine equals Alan Shearer’s record of most Premier League goals in a calendar year (36) by netting a hat-trick at Turf Moor. Scored from a spot-kick early in the game, picked up Sissoko’s pass to finish into the back of the net and netted his third following a smart one-two with Dele Alli. A perfect 10 for Harry Kane.
