Manchester United were knocked out of the League Cup earlier this week by a determined Bristol City side, which will make Jose Mourinho, the manager at Old Trafford, furious. With the Premier League title going farther and farther away, chances of silverware are quickly slipping away and the manager is now desperate to make sure that his side can fight for something in the second half of the season.
Reports from the Daily Mail today suggest that Mourinho is searching high and dry for players who can improve the quality in the first team and one such player now linked with a move to Old Trafford is Borussia Dortmund starlet Christian Pulisic.
A transfer target for arch rivals, Liverpool, Pulisic is one of the most exciting young wingers in the game at the moment and Dortmund were reluctant to let him go in the summer transfer window. So it is hard to see United get their hands on the player in January but do you think he is a player they should keep tabs on, for the summer?
The ‘Male Athlete Of The Year 2017’ for USA, his national team, Pulisic is fast growing into a star in Europe and has been in electric form in the Bundesliga this season. He has three goals and an assist in 14 starts in the domestic league to back up his three goals and 8 assists from the previous season.
He also has 20 international caps in just over a year and at just 19, is one of the best teenagers on display in Europe.
A versatile winger, who can play as a part of the midfield as well, Pulisic is a gifted footballer, whose speed and dribbling, make him a hard man to mark. He has decent skill, can skip past challenges with ease and is adept at creating chances for his side in the final third.
He loves to stay on flanks, adding width to the side, and is just the kind of a player who Manchester United are currently missing in their squad. Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are all attackers who prefer to play centrally but have made most of their appearances this season on the flanks.
Jesse Lingard is probably the best, out and out winger, at Jose Mourinho’s disposal and adding another youngster in Pulisic will make the squad that much stronger, for years to come.
The Manchester United manager is also looking at the likes of Mesut Ozil from Arsenal, Malcom from Bordeaux and Willian from Chelsea but at just 19, Pulisic is potentially the best bet for the Red Devils.
