Matteo Darmian might part ways with Manchester United when the transfer window resumes in January. The Italian full-back has found first-team chances limited at Old Trafford this season and is now ready to switch clubs in order to gain more game-time. It is being reported that Napoli, Inter Milan and AS Roma have all joined in on the race for his signature. According to a reliable source in Italy, the Partenopei have begun negotiations with the Red Devils and a deal may take place next month. Although, United are in no hurry to sell with the defender being under contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2020.
In the midst of the on-going speculation, let’s take a look at three options for Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho to consider if the Italian defender leaves the club in January.
Sime Vrsaljko
The Atletico Madrid right-back has been on the radar of a whole host of clubs but the club has recently declared that he will be staying put at Wanda Metropolitano this season. However, the lure of playing for a club like United might change his situation if Jose Mourinho decides to pursue his services. He has caught the eye with his impressive performances this season which has seen him make 8 appearances for the club so far. The defender has 3 assists to his name and is currently on the rise in La Liga.
The Croatian international can be an ideal fit at Old Trafford as he attempts to make it through to the 2018 FIFA World Cup squad for his nation.
Kieran Trippier
The Tottenham Hotspur right-back has been in sensational form for Spurs this season. He has been part of Mauricio Pochettino’s preferred 3-4-2-1 formation and has often played on the right flank as a winger. The English full-back loves to attack and make runs down the touchline and can be an ideal asset for Jose Mourinho’s men at Old Trafford.
Trippier has already bagged 7 assists in 17 appearances for the North Londoners in all competitions. However, his place in the Spurs side is always in jeopardy with Serge Aurier also an option for Mauricio Pochettino. So any potential move to United might be enough to convince him to switch clubs as the Red Devils can surely use a right-back of his calibre in their starting eleven.
Matthias Ginter
The Borussia Mönchengladbach right-back has been in terrific form in the Bundesliga this season. The 23-year-old has made 17 appearances in the league which has seen him score 3 goals and provide one assist for the club so far. He is highly rated and can be a long-term addition for Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.
Ginter has also earned 17 international caps for Germany and will be in with a shout to make it to Joachim Loew’s 2018 FIFA World Cup squad.
