AC Milan club captain, Leonardo Bonucci has been linked to the current Premier League table toppers Manchester City. Bonucci arrived at the San Siro in a shock transfer for a reported fee of €42m and has so far failed to make an impact for the side this season.
Ac Milan had a very busy summer transfer window and had invested heavily in their pursuit of overcoming rivals, Juventus from defending their Serie A title 7th time in a row. But so far the Red and Blacks have disappointed so far into the season are destined to finish outside of the top four.
The club has issued statements earlier that they are unwilling to let go of their star goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma for any fee after facing hostility from home fans. However, his contract extension might get cancelled with the 18-year-old unsure of continuing his career for a fanbase who despise him. Milan will have to convince Donnarumma to stay and are willing to get players off the wage bills to do so.
Guardiola had previously praised Bonucci as his most favourite player and it was assumed that the Spaniard will make a move for the Italian and bring him to Etihad last summer. But it did not work out due to uncertain reasons and Bonucci decided to side with Italian football while moving to AC Milan from Juventus.
Already a heavy favourite to land Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, the Citizens require a quality centre-back to lead the defensive backline with club captain Vincent Kompany struggling to stay healthy for the entirety of the season. With Kompany returning to his primary leadership role, Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala do not possess the qualities of Bonucci and have often fallen short in their duties.
This has compelled Guardiola to find a perfect partner in the heart of the defence for his English ace John Stones, who has been in good form this season. Though Nicolas Otamendi has come good this season in his role of supporting Stones in the backline, the Spanish is looking for a permanent solution for the backline, which will not only help him to win the coveted Premier League for the first time in his career this season but also defend it successfully in the next one as well.
Bonucci, on the other hand, is not having a good time in the Serie A with AC Milan. With the Rossoneri looking nowhere near their best form in the recent times in the Europa League as well as domestic competitions, the 30-year-old centre-back might reconsider his future at the San Siro and make up his mind for a move to the Etihad Stadium in the near future.
