Arsenal are preparing a bid of £42.3m for PSV Eindhoven winger, Hirving Lozano as a likely replacement for either Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil. The left-footed winger will overtake his previous record and become the most expensive Mexican player ever if the transfer gets finalised. His held the title after his €24m move from Liga MX club, Pachuca to the Dutch outfit.
Arsene Wenger has taken a favourable eye to the 22-year-old from his impressive display in the Dutch Eredivisie. Lozana is currently the highest goalscorer in the league with 10 in 15 appearances and has boosted PSV to the top of the table, 5 points clear of rivals, Ajax. He also has 6 assists to his name for the season.
Lozano’s three-year stint at the Mexican league has greatly benefitted his footballing development and is already making his mark in European football. He netted the ball 41 times on 140 occasions for Pachuca. With 24 caps for the national team already, Lozano is already a first team favourite to appear in the FIFA World Cup 2018.
‘I believe many leagues are beautiful. I like the English and the Spanish very much.’
Lozano has been linked to Manchester United previously but is likely to end up in Wenger’s squad with the Frenchman pursuing him heavily. Arsenal’s season has been disappointing so far with a dark cloud of contract rejections looming over them ever since the season started. The English powerhouses failed to qualify for the Champions League last season and has failed to convince their star attackers Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to tie their futures to the club.
With the duo heading for the exit door in January, Wenger will be left with a massive gap in his attacking setup. If the North-London side wants to revive their season and finish in the top 4 with at least a domestic cup win, they will need talents like Lozano to make an immediate impact.
Everton has been reported to rival Arsenal in this transfer pursuit with Sam Allardyce heavily invested in obtaining a striker in January. Although not exactly a centre-forward, Lozano’s goalscoring talents cannot be questioned. Allardyce has been delegated the task of improving upon the poor start the Toffees have had this season. And the Englishman has delivered so far, digging them out of the relegation spot and to the top half of the table.
PSV have just signed a young Argentinean 18-year-old, Maximiliano Romero for €10.5m (also an Arsenal target) and are reportedly eager to close the transfer deal over Lozano as soon as possible.
