Newcastle United are one of the many clubs that have failed to find any consistency in the top flight this season. They are currently struggling in the 18th place in the points table and Rafa Benitez, who helped them to the top flight last season, will be well aware of the frailties in the squad, that need to be addressed in the January transfer window.
The Magpies have been constantly linked with a move for a number of star players in January but one player they have now agreed to sign is Chelsea youngster Kenedy.
Reports today confirm that Chelsea and Newcastle United have agreed a deal to see the Brazilian star move to the St James’ Park on loan for the rest of the season. It is understood that the Magpies will pay a loan fee for his services and are ready to use him, as soon as the window re-opens. So is Kenedy a decent addition to Rafa’s squad?
The Spanish manager is not expected to be given insane funds to spend on his team in the January transfer window and it is imperative that he looks for exciting players, who will be available on loan. Liverpool’s Danny Ings is another player Rafa wants but he will be ecstatic to get Kenedy in his books in January.
A versatile winger, who can play as a full-back or an attacking winger, the former Fluminense man joined Chelsea back in 2015 but has managed to make just 15 PL appearances till date for the Blues. He is below Marcos Alonso and Davide Zappacosta in the pecking order at the Stamford Bridge at the moment and Antonio Conte gave him his third League Cup start, earlier this week.
He is yet to be used in the domestic league this season and reports claim that Conte is unhappy with the player’s discipline and is more than happy to send him out on loan. But what will he add to the squad at the St James’?
Known for his deceptive pace and dribbling abilities, the 21-year old is an attacking minded player, who is at his best as a wing-back. He is effective as a full-back but can also put in a solid shift in a more attacking role, adding a different dimension to the left flank for Newcastle United.
Javier Manquillo, who joined the club on a permanent basis this summer, remains Rafa’s first choice left-back this season but the manager is less than impressed with his performances and has constantly used the likes of Chancel Mbemba and even Jesus Gamez and Paul Dummett have put in a shift there once each, this season.
Kenedy may not be able to walk into the first team for the rest of the season, but at 21, he has immense potential, that can easily cement itself in the first team, come the end of the season. But do you think he is the right man for them?
