Everton are interested in making a move for Bristol City left-back Joe Bryan when the transfer window opens in January. According to a recent report, the Toffees are set to go head-to-head with fellow Premier League rivals Newcastle United in pursuit of the defender’s services next month. Both clubs are currently looking for a new left-back in this upcoming transfer window and the Bristol City players fit the bill perfectly. The 24-year-old Championship full-back is enjoying a fine season with the Robins in their quest to gain promotion at the end of the season and his impressive performances have caught the eye of the Toffees’ boss Sam Allardyce.
Bryan scored the opening goal for his side in their famous Carabao Cup quarterfinal win against Manchester United on Wednesday night. It is understood that Everton and Newcastle have both sent scouts to monitor his progress this season and the two clubs are now considering making a formal offer with the January transfer window looming on the horizon.
The English left-back came through the youth ranks at Bristol City and has played in over 200 matches for the club, scoring 18 goals and making 28 assists. Bryan has a wealth of Championship experience but it remains to be seen whether he can now take the next step and play Premier League football week in week out.
Everton manager Sam Allardyce is likely to be interested in making a few additions in January with the club currently floating in mid-table in the league standings. Their first choice left-back Leighton Baines is out for a long time with an ankle injury and Big Sam needs someone who he can rely on every week in the Premier League. Cuco Martina is currently being used on the left side of the backline but he is not believed to be a long-term solution especially considering that he is primarily a right-back.
Joe Bryan has featured in 24 matches for the Robins in this campaign and has found the net four times while providing two assists in all competitions. His current form justifies the recent interest from Premier League clubs as the Toffees looks to fend off competition from Tyneside in pursuit of his signature. Everton can still push for a top 6 Premier League finish in the second half of the season.
However, it will depend on how the club’s recruits in the transfer window next month. Their last window was nothing short of a disaster and it’s high time that Allardyce addressed some of the issues on the pitch with some smart additions in January.
