Arsenal legend Ian Wright has urged Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge to swap football in Merseyside for a switch to Tottenham Hotspur. He believes that a move across to North London could benefit all parties when the transfer window commences next month. The 22-year-old ex Chelsea striker has been deemed surplus to requirements at the Merseyside club after falling down the pecking order at Anfield in this campaign. Roberto Firmino’s excellent run of form has kept him out of Jurgen Klopp’s matchday squad with the German boss favouring Dominic Solanke as a backup option than an injury-prone Sturridge.
The English international’s situation at Liverpool has made Ian Wright weigh in on this issue and he has suggested that Spurs would a top destination if Sturridge decided to leave the Merseysiders in hope of greener pastures. In a segment featured in BBC Radio 5 live, Wright said:
“Sturridge needs something to happen [and] Spurs wouldn’t be a bad move for him.”
Jurgen Klopp’s men are currently preparing for their trip to the Emirates where they will take on Arsenal in what promises to be a crunch clash on Friday night.
Liverpool has found the back of the net 38 times in 18 league matches which is the third-best offensive record in the Premier League. Their goal-scoring prowess of late proves that everything is rosy in the attacking third for Jurgen Klopp’s men. The 28-year-old English forward is in dire need of regular game-time in his quest to overcome his injury problems and secure a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The Liverpool poacher might have finally realised that his opportunities are limited at Anfield this season and he needs to move into greener pastures which the North Londoners may be able to provide.
A striking duo of Harry Kane and Daniel Sturridge would be stuff Spurs fans will dream of! It promises to be a mouth-watering prospect but any potential move will depend on Pochettino’s interest in the player and whether Liverpool would want to do business with a direct rival. Pochettino’s Spurs are going head-to-head with Liverpool in their quest to finish in the top 4 and ensure Champions League football for next season. Neither side will likely want to negotiate with each other which makes this potential transfer a long shout.
However, Sturridge has a wealth of experience in the Premier League and will be a good addition to the Spurs squad if he can overcome his injuries in the second half of the campaign. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham take Ian Wright’s advice and makes an offer for the Liverpool striker next month.
