Swansea City has recently sacked their manager Paul Clement following their dismal start to the Premier League which has seen the club win just three games this season. The club is currently rooted at the bottom of the Premier League table and has decided to part ways with their manager after Paul Clement was in charge for less than a year at the Welsh club. The 45-year-old former boss took charge of the Swans in January 2017 with the club in the relegation zone and steered them to a 15th place finish in his first six months at the club.
Following his sacking, Swansea chairman told reporters that a change in management halfway through a season “was the last thing we wanted to do”. He said: “We felt we couldn’t leave it any longer and needed to make a change to give the best chance of an uplift.”
Now that Paul Clement has departed the Swans, let’s take a look at three options who can come in and make a difference at the Welsh club to try and avoid relegation this season.
Tim Sherwood
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa manager will be perfect for the vacant position at the Welsh club and can come in to inspire the current squad of players to fight for the jersey. His reign at Spurs and Villa might have been short but he did a great job during that time and got the best out of the players at his disposal.
Swansea City needs someone of that calibre to lift the players as they get ready for a long and hard second half of this current campaign.
Alan Curbishley
The former West Ham United manager is vastly experienced and can be a rescue act for the Swans if they are to bring him in the next few weeks. He has already been in a relegation dogfight before during his time with the Hammers and knows what it takes to grind out results. The 60-year-old manager can also bring in some quality players on the cheap when the transfer window opens next month as he has developed a lot of contacts in English football during his time in football management.
Gordon Strachan
The former Scotland boss has been in management for a long time in football and is the most experienced manager on this list. He has a wealth of experience in English and Scottish football and has taken charge of the likes of Middlesbrough, Celtic, Southampton and Coventry City during his long and successful career in football management.
The 60-year-old free agent knows what it takes to win and he can definitely inspire the current group of players at Swansea to give their best for the club in a bid to avoid the drop.
