After less than a year in charge at the Liberty Stadium, Paul Clement has been shown the exit door after Swansea City failed to muster any kind of a form this season. Having won just three games in 18 so far this season in the Premier League, the Welsh outfit are rooted to the bottom of the points table and are in desperate need of a change.
Branding it as ‘the last thing we wanted to do as a club’, Huw Jenkins, the chairman of the club said, ‘We felt we couldn’t leave it any longer and needed to make a change to give us the best chance of an uplift and a turnaround in fortunes with the club bottom of the Premier League.’
They have picked up just four points from their last 11 games but it was expected that Clement would be given a shot at the January transfer window. However, with a run of games against sides close to them in the points table, the Swans needed a change quickly, and the British manager had to face the axe.
Clement, who only joined the club at the start of this year, helped Swansea retain their place in the top flight from a tricky situation in the second half of the previous season, picking up 29 points from 19 games. He was also nominated for the manager of the season award, which got the fans of the club all excited.
However, the summer transfer window was one of the worst in the recent history of the club, as they lost two of their most important players in Gylfi Sigurdsson and Fernando Llorente to Everton and Chelsea respectively, considerably decreasing the quality in the first team.
The Swansea board did acknowledge that fact that they failed to replace their star players efficiently but were not ready to wait anymore, giving Clement the axe.
This will now mean that the Swans are looking for their third manager in less than a year and reports already claim that they are desperate to find an able replacement before the game against Crystal Palace this weekend.
The Swansea hierarchy believes that this is the right time to shake things up at the club and reports claim that Tony Pulis and Ryan Giggs are both front-runners for this job.
However, the news of Clement’s sacking was a bit surprising, even for the club’s fans and here is how they reacted on Twitter to this news:

Idek what to think. Been shit this season but what he did last season was hardly short of a miracle. Gotta thank him for what he did but glad he's gone tbh

On Clement, cannot dispute that he has been unable to raise performances, let alone results this season. But blame is firmly with the recruitment team. Shambolic signings.
